Bremen


Bremen, home to the world famous Town Musicians, is the throbbing, multifaceted heart of North West Germany. The 1,200 year old Hanseatic city has something unique about it that ensnares a metropolitan city experience, in blending the very old with the very new. A port city along the river Weser, Bremen is the tenth most populous city in Germany. It has an area of 327 sq km, on which 550,000 citizens reside.

How to Get There:
The international airport is within the city, as close as 3.5 km to the city centre of Bremen. You can get from the airport to Bremen’s city centre in a mere 10 minutes, and fly direct from the City Airport to 40 different destinations worldwide. City Airport Bremen's efficiency in serving 2.4 million business and holiday travellers a year, is due to their unique advantage: Easier to reach – quicker to leave! Local buses and trams run past the airport.

What to See:
The ornate Weser-Renaissance town hall and the grand old statue of Roland on the market square (both UNESCO World Heritage) are two of the city's most famous landmarks. The Roland, Bremen's very own "statue of liberty", has stood as an emblem of independence since 1404. Also take in the Market square, Böttcherstrasse, Schnoor quarter, botanika, St. Stephen’s Cultural Church, Mühle am Wall, Exhibition shipyard, Training ship ‘Deutschland', Meierei Bürgerpark and Zur Moorlosen Kirche. Bremen's seafaring traditions are still alive and well today and have a big part to play in its unique appeal. The Schlachte Embankment along the River Weser is a magnet for locals and tourists: there are always people milling around by the water, especially when the sun is out.

Where to Eat:
Of the 552 restaurants in Bremen, Beck's in'n Snoor, Dreijahre, Eisen, Restaurant am Deich 68, Schroter"s Leib und Seele, Scusi Schnoor and Grauer Esel are recommended.

Events:
The Freimarkt (the oldest funfair in Germany) and the traditional Christmas market.
