Ingolstadt is a 1200 year-old city in the centre of the Free State of Bavaria, Germany. The Danube River flows through the city. Ingolstadt has a population of close to 125,000 residents, on an area of 133 sq km.

The nearest major airport to Ingolstadt is Franz Josef Strauss International
Airport, Munich and is 73 km from the city centre of Ingolstadt. There are 2 other airfields close by, but only for small aircraft. It is also possible to get in from Frankfurt, but that requires a 2-hour train ride thereafter. The München-Nürnberg-Express is a Regional Express train service connecting Munich and Nuremberg. With a top speed of 200 km/h , the train is currently the fastest regional train service in Germany. It halts at both Ingolstadt Haubtbahnhof and Ingolstadt Nord. Ingolstadt has direct connections to ICE and regional services to Augsburg, Regensburg and Ulm. An autobahn also connects Ingolstadt with Munich and Nürnberg.
What to See:
Ingolstadt gained notoriety as the birthplace of the monster created by the scientist Victor Frankenstein. German car maker Audi has its HQ in Ingolstadt, and offers a tour of the factory. Ingolstadt features many ancient gothic buildings, the Herzogskasten, the New Castle, Church of Our Lady and the churches of Saint Maurice. The Kreuztor (1385), an old gate in city ramparts, the Old Anatomy Building and the church St. Maria de Victoria are worth a visit. Ingolstadt hosts one of Germany's leading business academies: the Ingolstadt School of Management.
Events:
Ingolstadt’s theatre, the Saturn Arena, shows many plays, ballets and dance performances. Rock concerts are also on the cards.
Hotels:
Ingolstadt has over 40 hotels for the public at large. Most are in the 2-3 star bracket, with a few 4-star hotels and only one 5-starred. Rates vary quite a lot in the middle range and drop to low values for the lower range. The others are expensive. Ammerland, Rappensberger, Parkhotel Heidehof, Hotel Mercure, Ara Hotel, Kult Hotel, NH Ambassador and the Minotel Pius Hof are recommended. B&B prices are acceptable. Two Youth Hostels are also available.
