How to Get There:
Situated in central Germany, Magdeburg is best approached by road or rail. Two motorways are linked to the city. Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof is a busy rail junction and all ICE trains halt here. If you wish to fly in, land in Leipzig, use the motorway or the train to get to Magdeburg. If you land in Berlin or Hannover, use the motorway. Local travel is convenient. Tickets are valid on streetcars, busses and ferries. One day tickets (Tageskarte) are available at nominal prices per adult and per child. The S-Bahn also plies through the city.
What to See:
Magdeburg's most impressive building, the Protestant Cathedral of Saints Catherine and Maurice, has a height of 104 m: the highest church in eastern Germany. Abbey Kloster unser lieben Frauen (Cloister of Our Dear Woman), Kulturhistorisches Museum, Landtag; Rotehorn-Park, Gruson-Gewächshäuser, a botanical garden within a greenhouse complex, Magdeburg Water Bridge, Europe's longest water bridge and various river cruises.
