Moers is a small city in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the left bank of the Rhine, with a population of 108,000 on an area of 68 sq km.
How to Get There:
The nearest major airport is Dusseldorf, 30 km away; there are regional airports at Essen-Mulheim and Weeze, which are almost as far away. Connection to Moers is by road only. The city is on the Niederrheinstrecke, the rail line along the left bank of the Rhine – originally to Nijmegen, but now only to Xanten. Despite its size, Moers is served by only Regionalbahn: every 30 minutes from Duisburg to Moers, every 60 minutes from there to Xanten.
What to See:
Visit Moers’s town centre and explore the Moerser Schloss (castle), the Park (Schlosspark), Lauersfort and Peterhof Palace and the historic Altstadt (Old Town). The Rundburg, which was the local castle, was built on an inaccessible island between the Rhine swampy arms. Oldest part of the former moated castle is a tufa tower of the 12th century. The circular fortress dates from the 13./15th century. Another castle came up in its place and houses the local museum today. Lauersfort Castle (privately owned) is a moated castle. The eastern part dates from the 15th Century, the western part of the staircase and bailey were created in the 18th century. The Peterhof is also in the vicinity of the castle is. It was built in the 19th century by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. You can also stroll around or go bicycling around the countryside.

Moers has 64 restaurants, offering plenty of choice in cuisine. Burgerstuben, Grafschafter, Neissekrug, Ambiente, Bahnhof Hulsdonk and the Kampmann are recommended.

Most visitors prefer to stay close to the airfield they landed at. However, there are five hotels in Moers and three B&Bs/Inns. The hotels are Moers Van Der Valk, Hotel Moerser Hof, Hotel Zur Linde, Seerose Hotel-Restaurant-Café and the Wellings Parkhotel.
