Just across the Rhine River from Dusseldorf, Neuss was founded by the Romans in 16 B.C., as the military colony of Novaesium, making it one of Germany's oldest Roman settlements. The town prospered in the Middle Ages. Neuss is in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany and owes its success as a junction of historic and modern trade routes.
How to Get There:
The nearest major airport is Dusseldorf, 18 km away. Cologne-Bonn is 54 km away. For regional flights, the airport at Mönchengladbach is a mere 15 minutes by road. With only 18 million inhabitants living in the region, the rail company has difficulty filling trains in spite of comfortable seating and high speed connections. New local trains are being introduced across the state with improved reliability. Normal access is via Hamm. Buses will take you from village to village. The tram will take you from Neuss or Krefeld directly to Düsseldorf. You can even get from Dusseldorf to Meerbusch and Neuss by underground –within the district the connections are excellent, too. Inside the single towns you can primarily move along by bus. Further, in some towns you will also find trams. S-Bahns (city trains) that ensures a comfortable journey over longer distances such as: between Neuss, Kaarst, Dormagen and Korschenbroich.
In the Rhein County Neuss you can live in the country, work in the city and still leave the car at home. Buses, trams and city trains will get you almost anywhere you wish and back. On weekends, there is even a night express that makes nightly trips to Meerbusch from Neuss.
What to See:
Today Neuss is an important rail junction, port, grain market, and industrial centre. But, take a break, head for Zons. Zons is a wonderful example how marvellous the countryside can be. In the east, Zons sits on the Rhine. On the other side of the Rhine there is a 3 kilometer path that leads to idyllic and historical Düsseldorf-Urdenbach. There are a number of half-timbered houses and ancient churches from the 17th and 18th century. The castle Garath and the cultural centre castle Benrath is also nearby. Botanischer Garten der Stadt Neuss, the city's botanical garden is also worth a visit. Museum Insel Hombroich is one of the city's main attractions, showcasing art and architecture.

Neuss, the biggest town in the Rhine County Neuss region, provides its visitors with a large selection of temporary accommodation.
